Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) is proud to announce the promotion of Hany Daoud to Head Coach of the Saints Men’s Basketball Team, following the departure of Coach Alex Syum. Coach Daoud has served as Assistant Coach at MHCC since 2022 and brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and a deep passion for the game to his new role.
“Coach Syum did an excellent job for us, and we will miss him in our department,” said Director of Athletics, Dr. Kim Hyatt. “His leadership has been instrumental in shaping our athletes and the culture. At the same time, we are thrilled to have Coach Daoud step up into the head coaching role. His knowledge, passion, and commitment make him the perfect choice to lead us forward.”
Coach Daoud, a native of Pullman, Washington, is a graduate of Portland State University (PSU) where he earned a degree in political science. During his time at PSU, he served as Director of the Beaverton Hoop, managing the Northwest’s largest basketball program and facility. His coaching journey includes international experience as a player development coach and 19U Head Coach for Zamalek, a premier professional basketball club in Cairo, Egypt.
After returning to Portland, Daoud continued building his coaching résumé with roles at Aloha, Lincoln, and Jefferson High Schools as JV Head Coach and Varsity Assistant. His impact expanded through his work with the Portland Trail Blazers as their lead youth development coach. For over a decade, he has run Rose City Basketball, a club that has helped place numerous athletes in collegiate programs from Division I to Junior College.
Coach Daoud steps into his new role immediately as the Saints prepare for the 2025–26 season.
