The Mountain Times
Before there was MINI Takes the States, there was Mini Meet. This cross-country celebration of the original Mini Cooper began in 1973 in Reno, Nevada, and now, over 50 years later, the party rolls into Oregon for the first time in nearly a decade.
Mini Meet West 2025 will take place July 7–10 at Mt. Hood Resort in Welches, Oregon, and we’d love for The Mountain Times to be part of the ride.
More than 100 classic Minis, yes, the ones that look like go-karts with attitude, along with modern MINIs, will descend on the mountain for four days of nostalgic horsepower, automotive oddities, and stories as quirky as the cars themselves.
Highlights Worth
the Drive:
Car Show on the Green – July 8, Mt. Hood Resort: A colorful showcase of classic Minis, rare models, and custom builds (including “Ecto-1/2”—a Ghostbusters-themed Mini built by Norm Nelson).
Autocross at Mt. Hood Skibowl – July 9: Watch these pint-sized performers tear up the track with precision.
Owner Stories with Oregon Roots: Meet a local family whose Minis were originally purchased from Monte Shelton British Motors on West Burnside in 1960 and are still in the family today.
The Mini Cooper, built from 1959 to 2000, was more than just a British icon. It won races, hearts, and was even named “Car of the Century” by Autocar. And its passionate owners? They’re just as unforgettable.
This is a rare chance to cover an event that only hits Oregon once every 5 to 7 years — a reunion of sorts for Mini lovers from all over North America. We’re rolling out the red carpet (OK, it’s green grass and twisty mountain roads) for you to join us.
Come for the cars. Stay for the stories.
