June was a big month for the Hoodland Women’s Club (HWC).

The month got underway with HWC’s annual meeting at Timberline Lodge where officers/board members for fiscal year 2025-26 were inducted. They are Nichole Watts, president; Lori Neely, vice president; Julie St. Peter, parliamentarian; JoAnne Stalsberg, treasurer; Destiny Bovero, recording secretary; Bonnie Hayman, corresponding secretary; and members at large Melanie Brown, Lisa Massena Lambert and Gracie Schenkel.

At that same meeting, four Sandy High School seniors with ties to the Hoodland area were announced as this year’s HWC recipients of $2,500 scholarships. They are Madison Benson, who will attend Mt. Hood Community College to complete its nursing program; Sophie Eaton, who will attend the University of Oregon majoring in political science; Isaiah Gerhardt, who will major in digital media and business at Southern Oregon University; and Dahlena U’Ren, who will major in neuroscience at Washington State University. They were selected from among a record number of applicants.

HWC still has its first ever professional development scholarship to award. That scholarship will be awarded this fall. A Hoodland area adult with financial need can use scholarship funds for such things as continuing education, training, conferences and textbooks. See the HWC website (https://www.hoodlandwomensclub.org/scholarship) for more information.  Applications are due August 31.

HWC’s largest fundraiser of the year also took place in June. The “Scramble for Scholarships” shotgun scramble golf tournament provided an opportunity to play golf while enjoying entertainment provided by DJ Kyle Sullivan and taking advantage of special hole prizes donated by Point Blank Distributing, Double Mountain Brewing, pFriem Brewing, Mogul Mountain Pizza and Chicali Cantina. The scramble was followed by lunch provided by Busy Bee Catering along with a live auction and raffle.

New this year was an opportunity to purchase memorabilia at the tournament. Attendees viewed samples at the tournament itself where they could select items and order them for later delivery.

A new event, the Harvest of Hope Gala on October 4, will further support HWC’s community giving mission. Be sure to save that date on your calendars. Contact info@hoodlandwomensclub.org for details.  The event will feature a dinner, auction and raffle. Individual and table tickets are available on the website.

Flower basket sales this spring provided still another opportunity to raise funds for community needs. Those purchasing baskets picked them up on a rainy Saturday in May. They will be on display at homes and businesses throughout the area this summer.

In addition to community-wide support and events, HWC regularly hosts activities specifically for its members. The next one on tap is wine tasting and a garden party on July 22.

HWC membership is open to anyone who calls the Hoodland Community home, whether full or part time. Individuals can enroll on the HWC website or get more information by emailing board@hoodlandwomensclub.org. Those interested are invited to attend one of the monthly HWC meetings or this summer’s picnic at Wildwood Park on August 11 at 4 p.m.
