Hoodland Women’s Club Highlights

Jun 5, 2025
By Cathy Lavin, HWC For The Mountain Times

The largest fundraiser of the year is on tap for the Hoodland Women’s Club (HWC) this month. The “Scramble for Scholarships” shotgun scramble golf tournament is an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, have fun, and support the Hoodland community all at once. This year’s tournament is scheduled for Thursday, June 26, at the Mt. Hood Oregon Resort. There’s still time to register on the HWC website. The $120 per person cost includes green fees, cart, buffet lunch, alcohol samples and golf prizes. Non-golfers can use the same registration site to order $25 tickets for lunch and the auction and raffle that follows the tournament.

New this year will be a chance to purchase memorabilia at the tournament.  There will be samples to view at the tournament itself with an opportunity to select items and order them for later delivery.

The golf tournament couldn’t happen without its generous sponsors. This year HWC welcomes two diamond level ($2500) sponsors: Allay Consulting and All Country Real Estate (ACRE) NW. They are joined by gold-level ($1000) sponsors Evergreen Home Loans, Karen and Edward Bassett Fund, Sandy Decor and Smoke on the Mountain. Silver-level ($500) sponsors are Clackamas County Bank, Ever Fresh Fruit Company, Laura P. Bassett/ Christopher H. Schmitt,  McKenzie Dental, Mountain Life Clinic, Orchid Health Hoodland Clinic, Safeway, Thriftway, Welches Smoke, Vape & Gifts and Whistle Stop Bar & Grill. HWC wants to thank not only these sponsors, but bronze-level ($250) and individual-level ($100) sponsors as well.

The primary focus of the tournament is to fund scholarships.  Four student recipients of $2500 scholarships were announced May 28 at Sandy High School’s Scholarship Acceptance Event.  Applications for HWC’s first-ever Professional Development Scholarship for adults, which will be awarded in September, are still open and available on the HWC website.  While the bulk of tournament proceeds go to scholarships, the tournament supports other activities of HWC’s Community Fund as well.

The Club’s inaugural Harvest of Hope Gala on October 4 will also support the Fund. Be sure to save that date on your calendars.  Contact info@hoodlandwomensclub.org for details.

The Club’s mission of “helping the whole community” was highlighted at an April dog and cat clinic in partnership with Northwest Mobile Vet.That event, which was open to everyone within the Hoodland community, offered veterinary care for free or at reduced cost.

There are also regular events for HWC members only. The next one is a Wildwood Park walk on Wednesday, May 21, at 4 p.m.

HWC membership is open to anyone who calls the Hoodland Community home, whether full or part time. Individuals can enroll on the HWC website or get more information by emailing board@hoodlandwomensclub.org.

Those interested are invited to attend one of the monthly HWC meetings. The Club’s annual meeting at noon on June 2 at Timberline Lodge will feature installation of the 2025-2026 slate of officers. Those will be Nichole Watts, president; JoAnne Stalsberg, treasurer; Bonnie Hayman, corresponding secretary; Destiny Bovero, recording secretary; Julie St. Peter, parliamentarian; and Lisa Massena-Lambert, Gracie Schenkel and Melanie Brown, members at large.
