Hoodland Community Planning Organization Hosts May Meeting on Wildfire Awareness

May 7, 2025
By Pat Erdenberger, Hoodland CPO For The Mountain Times

We welcome a bustling month of May. Most of you know that the goal of the Hoodland Community Planning Organization (HCPO) is to bring County information to our Hoodland community and provide a voice back to the County.
The HCPO will hold an in-person Community meeting on Thursday, May 15th at 7 p.m. at the Mt Hood Resort, location TBA. Write to us at: Hoodlandcpo@gmail.com to get on the mailing list.
The topic for our meeting will be of interest to many since May is Wildfire Awareness Month. We are bringing together a panel of interest to the Hoodland Community.
The panel will include representatives from:
Hoodland Fire District #74 on current initiatives and the benefits of creating Firewise Communities
Mt. Hood Corridor Wildfire Partnership to discuss the benefits of collaboration between Federal, State, and County government agencies with community CPO and HOA groups as well as individual community members
CPO Presentation on the benefits of neighborhood-to-neighborhood communication in widespread emergencies of all kinds
In March our speakers, Chelsea Lincoln Lane, Facilities Administrator with the Oregon Trail School District (OTSD) and Garth Guibord, District Communications Director, presented a picture of what is to come in the Welches schools.
Their specific topic was the upcoming School District bond measure, likely to be on the ballot this November, to upgrade mechanical, plumbing and electrical issues throughout the district, including the Welches schools. The total cost for the bond is $165M. If approved, the State may grant $6M to the OTSD.
Chelsea and Garth brought some architectural drawings to show the preliminary plans for the two Welches schools. The plans call for moving grades K-5 into the middle school building, which will have some remodeling done to accommodate the move.
The Welches grade school would be upgraded to include a new community space and kitchen, rooms to host other events, space for the daytime preschool and possibly pickleball courts. A community space is something the Hoodland CPO has hoped for for a long time.
The OTSD plans tours through the buildings for the public to see current conditions. Timing to be announced. For an appointment for a tour or with questions please contact:
