Third Annual Sandy Invitational Chainsaw Competition (SICC)
Sandy, Oregon – [April 15] – Trajectory, a youth-driven organization dedicated to forestry education and workforce development, is proud to announce the return of the Sandy Invitational Chainsaw Competition: SICC Forest Fest, now in its third year. The event is scheduled to take place May 31 and June 1, promising a full day of high-energy competition, skilled artistry, and immersive forest-focused education.
Founded in July 2022, Trajectory was created with a clear mission: to connect young people with the wealth of educational and career opportunities in Oregon’s thriving forestry industry. The SICC Forest Fest stands as a powerful expression of that mission — bringing together community, craft, and conservation in one of Oregon’s most forest-rich regions.
This year’s festival will feature five main components, with the crown jewel being the live chainsaw carving competition. Up to 25 independent artists from across the region will take to their logs, chosen by lot at 8:00 a.m., and carve intricate works of art throughout the day. At 5:30 p.m., when the final chainsaws are silenced, the completed works will be offered for sale or auctioned to attendees.
In addition to the carving spectacle, attendees can enjoy a variety of timber sports, including traditional events like buck sawing and underhand chopping. Trajectory is also proud to host a range of relevant vendors and interactive educational booths, many in partnership with aligned organizations working in conservation, timber, and natural resource education.
“Oregon does trees a bit differently,” says Austin Ernesti, founder of Trajectory. “Our forests are an active and complex laboratory worth supporting and emulating. They create sustainable products, public recreation, curtail the threats of climate change, and provide a wide range of careers. Trajectory can think of nothing in Sandy more worth celebrating, studying, enjoying, protecting, and honoring than the Forest.”
“The SICC Forest Fest is more than just a festival — it’s a call to action for youth and community members to engage with forestry as a field of innovation, art, sustainability, and livelihood. Trajectory continues to lead the way in inspiring the next generation of forest stewards and skilled professionals.”
