Hoodland Women’s Club Tees Up Spring Fundraisers and Community Support Initiatives

Apr 30, 2025
Hoodland Women’s Club Highlights
By Cathy Lavin, For The Mountain Times

It’s springtime and Hoodland Women’s Club (HWC) members’ thoughts have turned to golf, flower baskets, clean roads, healthy pets and walks in the park.

HWC’s major annual fundraiser, the “Scramble for Scholarships” golf tournament, is an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Mountain community while at the same time helping Hoodland neighbors. This year’s tournament is scheduled for Thursday, June 26, at the Mt. Hood Oregon Resort. Teams of four can show off their skills on the course, compete for bragging rights and support the community by registering on the HWC website at www.hoodlandwomensclub.org.

There are multiple ways community members can do their part beyond playing golf itself. These include sponsorships, buying raffle tickets for baskets, bidding on auction items and outright donations. Sponsorship forms are also available on the website. For the first time this year, HWC already has two diamond level ($2500) sponsors: Allay Consulting and All Country Real Estate (ACRE) NW. Gold-level sponsors so far are Evergreen Home Loans and Sandy

Decor. There are four silver-level ($500) sponsors as this goes to press. They are Ever Fresh Fruit Company, Laura P. Bassett and Christopher H. Schmitt, Welches Smoke, Vape & Gifts and Whistle Stop Bar & Grill. Businesses, residents, and friends of the community are invited to join them. Bronze-level ($250) and Individual-level ($100) sponsorships are also available.

Although the primary focus of the tournament is to raise funds for scholarships, proceeds from the tournament also support other aspects of HWC’s Community Fund. An auction at the HWC Fall Gala on October 4 will also support the Fund. It’s not too early to think about contributing something for that event. Contact info@hoodlandwomensclub.org for details.

Those who ordered flower baskets via HWC’s annual fundraiser can pick them up on Saturday, May 17, from 10-noon at the parking lot next to the community garden and across from Welches Schools off Salmon River Road. HWC thanks all who ordered baskets for their support.

HWC members brought the Club’s mission of “helping the whole community” to life by participating in HWC’s spring road clean up on Monday, April 14. HWC members began their clean up at the intersection of Highway 26 and Salmon River Road in Welches and continued along a two-mile stretch of Salmon River Road.

In April, HWC sponsored a dog and cat clinic in partnership with Northwest Mobile Vet. That event, which was open to everyone within the Hoodland community, offered veterinary care for free or reduced cost. The community need for this type of service was obvious because almost all slots were filled right away. There are also regular events for HWC members only. The next one is a Wildwood Park walk on Wednesday, May 21, at 4 p.m. HWC membership is open to anyone who calls the Hoodland Community home, whether full or part time. Individuals can enroll on the HWC website or get more information by emailing board@hoodlandwomensclub.org. Those interested are also invited to attend one of the monthly HWC meetings. The April meeting at Kiwanis Club Camp featured a speaker from Clackamas Women’s Services. The next meeting will be Monday, May 12, at 4:30 p.m. at Skyway Bar & Grill, where members will elect officers for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.
