Sandy Actors Theatre has received generous grants from Clackamas County Tourism and the Autzen Foundation enabling us to complete an exciting project this summer: Improving the comfort and accessibility of our audience seating.
This project is already underway and is scheduled to complete in early September, just in time for the opening of our first show of the 2024-2025 season, Aboveboard, by Peter Bloedel & Emily Kimball. If there is a central theme for the 2024-2025 season at SAT, it would be “Variety and Virtuosity: A Season of Unexpected Delights.” The program invites theatergoers to expect the unexpected, promising a season filled with laughter and thought-provoking moments. On offer will be Aboveboard, Sept.20 — Oct.12, by Peter Bloedel & Emily Kimball and directed by Patrick Roth. Surprises multiply in this romantic comedy about magic, misunderstanding and running out of milk.
Just before Christmas will be Adrian — the Alternative Pantomime, by Rober Scott, himself a British mime, Nov. 29 — December 15. Traditionally performed at Christmas, with family audiences, British pantomime continues as a popular form of theatre, incorporating song, dance, buffoonery, slapstick, cross-dressing, audience participation and much more.
Opening on Valentine’s Day, SAT presents Jack of Diamonds, by Marcia Kash & Douglas E. Hughes, Feb. 14 — March 9. Jack is a former jeweler who made his living buying and selling diamonds via late-night TV ads. He lives in a privately-owned retirement home along with his fellow residents under the all-seeing eye of a mean nurse.
The climactic season closer will be Nunsense, by Dan Goggin, directed by Anita Sorel. Music direction is by Mark York, a well-known Broadway composer, accompanied by Jim Dale. This is a hilarious spoof about the misadventures of five nuns trying to manage a fundraiser. Sadly, the rest of the sisterhood died from botulism after eating vichyssoise prepared by Sister Julia Child of God.
